Who will police the Police? | Surrounded by armed guards, SHO Trikuta Nagar puts young girls to questioning at busy business center | | Abodh Sharma Jammu, July 17: The official gypsy of Police Station Trikuta Nagar (Bahu Fort) came to a screeching halt at the busy Bahu Plaza today afternoon following a scooty ridden by a couple of girls, barely in their teens. The SHO authoritatively sat at the co driver's seat of the gypsy as the armed PSOs jumped out from the rear and asked the girl who was riding the scooty to present herself before the SHO. Frightened and panicked by the presence of armed guards around her, the girl came to the SHO and was put to questioning in full public view by the officer during which the girl could be seen pleading to the officer, though what transpired between them was not audible to this reporter who was privy to the incident. The SHO who continued to sit in his gypsy while he was questioning the girl then seized the documents of the scooty and issued her a receipt against the seizure. After the SHO and his armed guards left the spot, the frightened girls were surrounded by the curious on lookers who wanted to know as to what wrong they had done. "We just over took the police gypsy and this infuriated the officer" said Ramnik (name changed) who was put to questioning by the said officer in full public view in the busy business centre at the peak hours. DIG Jammu- Kathua range, JP Singh when contacted over the incident agreed that the officer could have been politer through his conduct and body language given the fact that he was dealing with young girls. Meanwhile, the conduct of the police officer in question has raised serious questions about the demeanour and conduct of the police officers who have been given power and authority by our system, but have failed to teach them basic decency and ethics of general behaviour. |
