Presidential polls to witness interesting polling pattern today
Rivals NC & PDP, 2 groups of BJP to share common platform

Early Times Report
Jammu, July 18: All is set in terms of preparations at the State level for Presidential polls to be held in the lobby of Assembly in summer Secretariat tomorrow morning. Legislators from Jammu belonging to various parties today left for Srinagar to cast their votes which is going to witness an interesting polling pattern. While the rivals ruling National Conference and principle opposition party PDP will be seen sharing the platform in casting their vote in favour of Pranab Mukherjee , the legislators of BJP divided in two groups would also be seen converging together to support a common candidate PA Sangma projected by NDA for the coveted post.
Even as most of the legislators of the ruling Congress and National Conference from Jammu have already left for Srinagar few days back for participating in the meeting of the coalition allies addressed by the UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee himself on July 15, those belonging to BJP and J&K Panthers Party besides two Independent legislators today left for participation in the crucial polls tomorrow. It would, however, be seen whether any Independent MLA would abstain from the voting or not, though lone legislator of JSM Ashwani Sharma did not participate in the July 15 meeting at SKICC.
As for BJP legislators , the group of four led by Jugal Kishore Sharma came out with a formal statement of toeing party line in supporting PA Sangma as appropriate choice for the Country's President only yesterday , just two days ahead of polling, a move which is being seen as too late in the political circles in so far as the brinkmanship politics within the two groups is concerned. According to party sources , some key leaders and senior functionaries in the State unit of BJP are looking at move played by group of 7 led by Prof Chaman Lal Gupta as wise and mature also timely in declaring support to PA Sangma, the candidate of NDA of which BJP is major ally.
Even as Prof Gupta's move is attributed to his experience and stature of seasoned politician, his announcement of the statement days ahead of group of four legislators, whom party is claiming to be real group of BJP, has come as a surprise for many and pushed the former in 'backseat' once again when it comes to judging spontaneity and political acumen in taking timely steps. "The group led by Prof Gupta could have followed the other option keeping in view what Central leadership of the party's harsh action taken against them in suspending 6 and expelling the leader ….but it has decided to go the BJP way", said a senior leader of BJP. This is being seen as a good move and fresh beginning reflecting 'conciliatory gestures', something which may go in favour of the group, he said adding that the group is still looking forward to Central leadership taking a lenient view of accommodating them back in its fold.
On the other hand the statement made by leader of group of four Jugal Kishore came too late, no matter the party has already made its line known for Presidential polls. In terms of the one up manship between the two groups, it is the group led by Prof Gupta which has taken the lead in showing acumen and timely response in the key matters.
