NAAC team degrades prestigious MAM college | Faculty accuses former Principal for fiasco | | Abodh Sharma Jammu, July 18: The peer team of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, that visited Jammu in the month of May last has degraded the Government MAM PG college, by far one of the most celebrated educational institutions of higher learning in the State from 'B-plus' to a lowly 'B', disappointing the faculty, students, distinguished alumni and embarrassing the department of Higher Education, which had declared it as the lead college of the State. While MIER, a noted private institution has been rated as 'A' besides GDC Kathua, GDC Anantnag, SP College Srinagar, MAM college is lone recipient of 'B' grade despite of the fact that it has a sprawling campus of nearly 20 acres, highly qualified faculty, contemporary courses, impeccable record in sports and other co curricular activities to boast of. A highly disappointed team of faculty members hold the then Principal of the college, Ajeet Angral responsible for the fiasco. Talking to Early Times on condition of anonymity, these senior members of faculty accused Angral of dictatorial way of functioning, lack of foresight and planning and creating a wedge within the members of the staff. "He could not present the true picture of the College and failed to get the college ready for inspection of the NAAC team in time" said a senior members of college faculty. "He even tried cheap tactics to appease the inspecting team that further infuriated them", he added. The members of the faculty alleged that Ajeet Angral had managed his posting to the prestigious MAM college only due to his stint as the president of the college teachers association. Though Ajeet Angral has since been posted to GDC Reasi, the department of Higher Education is mulling an inquiry into the poor show by the college. |
