KISHTWAR, July 18: A day after "Early Times" carried out the report of Kishtwar acid victim Gulnaz Begum who runs a beauty parlor in Shaheedi Mohallah at Kishtwar, Jammu Kashmir police responded by asking to file her case afresh.
This comes hours after the State Women Commission responded to her plight. The Commission had sought report from police and recommended to get the case re-investigated. ''Police had a meeting with me and assured that they will re-investigate the case if I got a direction from the court to that effect", said, Gulnaz Begum.
She said that Dy.SP HQ Kishtwar Abrar Ahmed Chowdhary informed her that two accused namely Liquat Ali and Masood Ahmed were acquitted by the court. Gulnaz Begum was sprinkled with acid by three youth who wanted her to shut the parlor for ''spreading immorality'' in the area.
She said she was shocked to know about the judgment and particularly about the missing of Molvi Sajjad's name from the list of the accused. She said that she was duped by Kishtwar police. She said that during her statement before Judge at Kishtwar some two years ago, the Judge informed her that she will be called before the judgement was delivered.
She said that both police and prosecuting officer kept her in dark since last two years. She said that police informed her yesterday that both the accused were acquitted by the court in its judgment delivered in the month of February 2011. She said that as per Dy. SP HQ Kishtwar advice, she will appeal a fresh before the court with the request to direct police to re-investigate her case.
She said that she will continue her fight against the three devils who spoils her life. She said that she and her husband even try to meet Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, but fail to meet him. She also appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to help her in seeking justice. She said that she feels disheartened as and when she find the three culprits are moving scot free.
Five years ago some persons sprinkled acid on 34 year old Gulnaz Begum's face when she refused to close down her beauty parlor. In this acid attack, she lost her right eye and got disfigured. The incident did not deter her and she continues to run the parlor.
