Dedicates Unani hospital to public in a formal inaugural ceremony

SRINAGAR, July 18: Expressing unhappiness over private practice by doctors, Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma said he was surprised that doctors were indulging into private practice.
"The government pays doctors handsomely, more than any other profession, yet their indulgence into the menace of private practice is unfortunate and painful", the minister said.
The minister was speaking at a function organised to inaugurate Unani Hospital at Shalteng here. Sham Lal Sharma today dedicated 50-beded Unani Hospital to people at Shaltang, which was connstruicted at an estimated cost of Rs. 7.65 Crore by the Roads & Building Department.
Speaking on the occasion health minister accepted the fact that there is dearth of doctors in the department claiming the present dispensation has taken various measures to meet out the deficiencies. Minister reiterated the resolve of coalition government to develop the health infrastructure on modern lines as per the requirements of the people in every nook and corner of the State. He said health is the top most priority sector of the Government and will continue to receive the focused attention of the Government. "The Central Government as well as general masses have acknowledged the improvement on ground, the Minister maintained.
Referring to the development of AYUSH, the Minister said that Central Government has already sanctioned one Unani College for Srinagar and one Ayurvedic College for Jammu and work on these projects is apace. He said keeping in view the rich potential of medicinal plants in the State, the Government has established a full-fledged Medicinal Plant Board and Rs 16 crore have been kept at the disposal of the Board to explore the herbal potential. He also mentioned latest trends show that many people are inclined to avail the benefits of AYUSH treatment instead of allopathic. He said India is famous for the Ayurvedic and Unani treatment from the old times when Hakeems were doing miracles with the herbal treatment which was later adopted by the other countries. The old tradition has been returning back and large numbers of people are coming to receive the herbal treatments, he added.
He said to promote the AYUSH sector in the Jammu and Kashmir; the Government has taken several initiatives, which included appointment of 396 Medical Officers, 396 Pharmacists, 30 Homeopathic doctors, establishment of Drug Testing Lab. The Government has also proposed some new initiatives which included establishment of 30 new AYUSH Centres, Integrated AYUSH Hospital at Harvan, opening of Specialized Panchkarma Unit for the facilities of tourists to promote the Medical tourism. He hoped during the coming years, the AYUSH sector will flourish on the lines of other parts of the country.
MoS Health Javed Dar in his address said AYUSH sector has been receiving the focused attention of the Government in view of its popularity in the country. He appealed the people to avail full benefits of the AYUSH from the newly opened hospital.
MLA Batmaloo, Mohd Irfan Shah while extending his gratitude to the Minister for completing the hospital in a time bound manner called for making the hospital functional in all respects. He said his late father Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Shah has conceived the idea of establishing this hospital and made efforts for acquiring land for the purpose.
Abdul Kabir thanked the Ministers and gathering present on the occasion.
Among others present included Director Family Welfare, Dr TK Moza, Mission Director, NRHM Dr Yashpal Sharma, Commissioner Food Safety and Controller Drugs, Satish Gupta, leaders of prominent political parties, senior citizens, doctors and para-medics.
