Srinagar, July 19 : A day after Political Advisor to CM Devinder Rana retorted Sajjad Lone and threatened to file defamation sue for latter's uttering, Lone today expressed readiness to fight it out in a court of law. a spokesman of Peoples Conference quoting its chairman, Sajjad Ghani Lone today said that he (Rana) at least had the concept of legality and courts in his mind.
“Sajad Lone looks forward to highlight the misdoings of Rana and the corrupt practices of this government in both Kashmir and Jammu in the court of law”, he said.
“Rana’s melodramatic declaration of supreme morality in the discharge of his political duties is comical given the public perception and opinion that Kashmiris have about this government and Rana’s style of functioning. Rana’s assertion that he has never communicated with or ordered a government officer to act in a manner that would benefit his business interests is a self-absolving and defensive declaration that reeks of a guilty conscience. Since he has said that there is no record of such behavior by him in the course of his political career, it would be a matter of common sense to note that people generally don’t choose to keep a record of their misdeeds, corruption and misdoings in public life.”, it said.
He said Rana, in his `panicky, scripted reaction to Sajad Lone’s press conference has yet again proved that this government and its lieutenants were living in a delusional and imaginary world that was bereft of accountability and legitimacy.’
“As predictable as it could be, Rana’s immature antics of blackmailing and directing a handful of cable operators to issue a hurried statement under duress, right after the PC Chairman’s press conference reeks of a chronic policy of dividing Kashmiris to reap political and personal dividends through an engineered fragmentation of our society”, the PC spokesperson said.
“Kashmiris have been divided and made inimical to each other’s sentiments and rights by engineering the rise of Ikhwaanis, SOG and Task Force in the past and there are active efforts in place for creating new-age Ikhwaanis reminiscent of the past policy by pressurizing a handful of cable operators to issue a window-dressed statement against their own compatriots and colleagues. Rana’s design to divide the harassed and exploited cable operators of Kashmir by dint of harassment and bullying has been exposed and won’t be allowed to take roots”, he added.
The party spokesperson stated that PC would do what it takes to espouse the cause of the Kashmiri business community. “Kashmir region has been suffering for the last two decades and its espousal is essential and if some benefactors of the conflict see it as stoking regionalism, so be it. PC was against the scourge of regionalism, which ironically has been promoted and encouraged by none other than people of Rana’s ilk and the system he belongs to. This chronic disease is on prowl that whenever one talks of Kashmiri interests, it is branded as `regionalism’. We Kashmiris, as a nation are a liberal and peace-loving nation that believes in coexistence but our liberalism should not be taken as an affidavit for us to be walked over. Diversion of funds and facilitating the concentration of business and economic power in Jammu has been a hallmark of successive State governments”, he said.
Responding to Rana’s tantrum that the PC Chairman had tarnished his image and reputation, the PC spokesperson stated that “the basic minimum requirement for tarnishing someone’s reputation and credibility is that the person in question needs to have some basic quantum of credibility or reputation to be tarnished. Devender Rana, it seems is mistaking notoriety for fame and would be well advised to come out of the corridors of power to know what this nation thinks of him and his government and their manipulative style of functioning.”
He added: “In a government that is infamous for corruption and inefficiency, Rana wants us to believe that he symbolizes either one or all the three monkeys of Gandhi Ji and has compartmentalized his business and political interests. Rana would also be well advised to know that this is Kashmir, not Jammu where you can get away with locking up all your business opponents and take over lucrative contracts of trucking and freely take part in land-grab operations. The cable operators of Kashmir have sacrificed 21 of their comrades in a period during which Rana and his patron Omar Abdullah were migrants in Delhi or Jammu”, said the statement.
Stating that PC had a non-negotiable vision of upholding the integrity of this State based on equality and fairness, the PC spokesperson added that the discrimination meted out to Kashmir by successive governments of the State was the biggest threat to the integrity of this State. It is a fact that most C&F agents and State-level distributors and stockists in the State were from Jammu in an arrangement where Kashmir was being treated as a colonized and lucrative consumer market that boosts the economy and capital interests of the Jammu region and further deteriorates the health of economy in the Kashmir region. Porters, skilled and unskilled laborers were being imported to Kashmir from Jammu even to the most far-flung areas of the region like Karnah at a time when unemployment in Kashmir was at an all time high. Also, for instance while buses, vans and taxis from other regions of the State were conveniently partaking in the tourism economy in Kashmir Valley, no Kashmiri would be allowed to operate his bus or taxi in Ladakh. The policy of holding the economic rights and aspirations of Kashmiris subservient to those of the Jammu region is spread across all functions and arms of our political and economic system. While the Chief Minister might have his own personal reasons for ordaining the rights of Kashmiris as lesser rights to those of the Jammu region and for putting the State administration and apparatus at the personal disposal of Mr. Devender Rana, PC will not allow the interests and dignity of Kashmiris to be trampled upon anymore.
The Party Chairman, Sajad Lone has committed his unqualified support to the harassed cable operators of Kashmir and assures them that not only will he join them in their agitation but will also knock legal doors and approach the concerned national regulatory authorities to highlight the mafia-like injustices meted out to them by Rana and this government. Sajad Lone reiterated his appeal to all political quarters and entities of Kashmir, including those with a conscience and thread of empathy for Kashmiri people in NC to come forward to stand up against the economic persecution of Kashmiri businessmen, traders and entrepreneurs. Kashmiris have rendered way too many sacrifices for their integrity and dignity to be trampled upon by regionally biased and corrupt individuals who manipulate political power for personal and regional interests. The party will stand up for Kashmir and garner public support in this mission of restoring the economic and political dignity of the people of Kashmir
