IGP Jammu for people friendly approach by Khakhi | Ultras desperate to revive routes of infiltration in border district of Rajouri -Poonch | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Jul 19: Reviewing the law and order meeting ahead of Independence Day, Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone Dilbagh Singh today asked police force to adopt friendly approach with people. While chairing a high level meeting on security, law and order problem Singh said that there is a need for people-friendly approach and behaviour of the Police force. Singh also stressed that the Police should not only be fair in their actions but should also look like being fair to everyone. The IGP reviewed an over-all view of the crime, security, law and order situation of the Zone along with preparedness for August 15 besides preparedness for handling the pilgrimages like Shri Buddha Amar Nath Yatra and Mata Sarthal Yatra that are scheduled to be held in July-August. However while talking to media persons at the sidelines of meeting, IGP Jammu said, "Militants were attempting to revive the routes of infiltration in Rajouri and Poonch border districts of Jammu and Kashmir. "There are reports that the militants are trying to revive routes of infiltration in Rajouri and Poonch border districts and also of ceasefire violations there", Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, Dibagh Singh said. "There are about 50 militants waiting for infiltratre, IGP said,adding the disclosure was made by a militant who was arrested with his family members in Poonch recently. Earlier during the meeting it was mentioned that maintenance of law & order, prevention of crime, speedy investigation and disposal of cases, adequate attention to public grievances on day-to-day basis, special attention to public importance cases, strengthening Police-Public rapport are of utmost importance. The members in the meeting also discussed that some of the areas where focused attention was required and the concerned officers were asked to be alert and more active. Expressing concern over the cases of vehicle thefts and others, Singh said that further efforts were required to be made to check these kinds of crime. Referring to suicide cases wherein 57 persons died during the year 2011 and road accidents leading to death of 706 persons and injuries to 5882 persons are the vital areas, Singh said that these need special concern and all concerned agencies need to play their roll to check loss of human life. The top cop also laid thrust on public confidence to be generated through people-friendly attitude of the 'khakhi' which should be exhibited at all levels. IGP Jammu also stressed that touring by Police Officers in their respective areas, meeting people and interacting with them on social and professional matters and also added that Civil Society Committee and Friends of Civil Society meets have to be regular and target oriented. Meanwhile the senior officers of respective ranges made presentations of their jurisdictions to the IG alongwith detailed profile of the area with context to law & order.
