J&K on road to electricity self reliance; Omar | | | Srinagar, July 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said today said his government has flagged power sector as one of the most important concerns in the state's development policy for its crucial economic significance and employment generation aspects. 'Innovative initiatives have been put in place under the new hydro electric policy to catapult indigenous power generation', he said adding that equal attention is on upgrading and improving transmission and distribution system to obtain substantial results and bring about healthy change in the state's present power scenario. He said various mega, medium and small power projects taken in hand and executions have put the state on road to self reliance in the electricity sector. The Chief Minister was reviewing the status on various power generation projects at the 65th Board of Directors meeting of Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC). Mr Abdullah said under a multipronged strategy the state's hydro power potential was being harnessed in right direction alongwith taking to the new and renewable energy resources available in the state. He said new projects under the state sector, as joint ventures and in IPP and PPP modes are being realized under the new power policy to make remarkable dent in this sector. The Chief Minister underlined the need for time bounding the completion of power projects by the JKSPDC stressing on monitoring the construction schedules regularly. |
