| BJP demands CBI probe into JKCA scam | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 19: BJP has demanded that the inquiry into the Jammu Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) scam should be handed over to CBI as the state government's inquiry is just an eye wash.
This was stated by BJP State president Shamsher Singh Manhas after reviewing the working of BJP's anti-scam Committee for Jammu & Kashmir and receiving an update on the various scams from BJP National Executive Member & Chief Spokesperson Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also the State Convenor of the committee.
Manhas demanded that the since the JKCA scam involves very powerful persons in the government, the inquiry should be immediately handed over to CBI. He said that President of JKCA Dr. Farooq Abdullah should first step aside to pave way for an impartial inquiry.
Manhas said that the JKCA involves embezzlement of about fifty crores of rupees and the money belongs to the people and hence every tax payer has a right to know the fate of the tax which he or she pays.
Besides speeding up the inquiry and taking it to the logical end, the JKCA should be re-constituted and only the persons related to the game of cricket should find place as office bearers, he said.
Manhas said that during the last two years, a number of scams have surfaced, both at the national and state level. While BJP's anti-scam committee has been actively pursuing the corruption related cases at national level, it has constituted state level teams throughout the country for the purpose. It is indeed a matter of satisfaction that the party's anti-scam committee got success in bringing into light the Defence Land scam at Srinagar, which has been inquired into by Defence ministry but unfortunately the Congress-led coalition government in the state under Omar Abdullah has not shown seriousness to take action against the Revenue department's officials. |
