Sham will inaugurate the centre today
100 year old Kashmir Nursing Home gets Supper Specialty Centre

Srinagar, July19: The Kashmir Nursing Home established in 1956 located at Gupkar road would get visiting supper specialists from Friday who would provide free consultation to cancer patients of valley twice a month.
The prestigious institution which was established in 1891 for treating the European people remained closed for all most 15 years due to a dispute between the Trust management and the state government.
During 70s the institution was taken over by Sher-i-Kashmir National Medical Institute Trust and due to disputes between the government and trust, the functioning was affected.
It was only in 2003 that Health department took over the management of the institution, however, in June last year the prestigious Nursing Home started functioning and initially provided services of Gynae and Pediatrics. Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma while talking to Early Times confirmed that his ministry has successfully made services of three renowned Cancer Supp Specialists available who would provide free medical service to the patients twice every month. Sham said that Doctors who have formally agreed to visit Kashmir Nursing Home twice every month include Padam Shri Dr. Ashoke Ved (cancer Specialist), Dr. Himant Singal (Breast Cance Specialist) and Dr. Tejinder Kalaria (Radiation, Oncology).
"I have been consistently pursuing the supper specialists to provide free services to the cancer patients in the valley as a Supper Specialty centre was already functional in Ghandi Nagar Hospital Jammu which has really made a difference for patients in Jammu region" Sham Lal told Early Times.
"the three Supper Specialists have already arrived here as state guests , I will inaugurate the Supper Specialty Centre on Friday" the minister said.
Sham Lal said that KNH will gradually provide all types of facilities and all possible efforts are being made to modernize the Nursing Home by equipping it with all facilities.
"I am personally monitoring the functioning of the century-old institution and I assure you things have improved a lot" Shal Lal said.
He said that all necessary measures have been taken to revive the institution as per its capacity and utilize the services of different faculty so that people can avail the facilities at their doorsteps. He said that Government will restore the pristine glory of this prestigious institution and super specialists from across the country will give their services free of cost to the patients, he maintained.
