Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 19: Hosts Jammu and Kashmir made a winning start in the four-day 20th Junior National Korfball Championship, organised by Jammu and Kashmir Korfball Association at Bakshi Stadium, here today. In the opening match, J&K defeated Madhya Pradesh 11-01 (ht-6-0). Arshu remained top scorer with three baskets while Harish and Devanshu contributed two each. Jugal added one basket to the team's total. In other league matches of the opening day, Haryana trounced Dadar and Nagar Hewali (DNH) 11-04 and Himachal Pradesh beat Tamil Nadu 11-05 (ht 5-0). The competition was declared open by Director Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Jai Pal Singh, who was chief guest. He was accompanied by senior officers of the department, Joint Director, Madan Lal, Deputy Directors, Ashok Kumar and Mohd Din as also Administrative Officer of State Sports Council, MA Malik and Principal of Government Physical Education College, Srinagar. Earlier, general secretary of the Association, Manjit Singh welcomed the chief guest and other distinguished gathering. Working president of the Association, Tarlok Singh presented a detailed report of the championship and other activities of the Association. Teams from 20 states and Union Territories of the country are part in this event.
