| HRC-BJP take up 'panchayat members security' to SHRC | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 19: Tahir Chowdhary Co-Convenor Human Rights Cell (HRC) BJP of Jammu and Kashmir State said that Avinash Rai Khanna, Member of Parliament had complaint before State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) to provide Security to sarpanches and panches for their safety as many of them have been threatened by the militants group and by the anti national elements.
In a press statement Tahir Chowdhary stated that it was given to understand that the state Human Rights Commission, Jammu and Kashmir had recommended to provide security to these sarpanches and panches of various Halqas before Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir as early as possible.
Chowdhary also said that unfortunately so far no powers have been given to the Sarpanches and Panches to discharge their duties under law and he felt that the state govt should not make further delay to give the powers to the sarpanches and panches under law of the country to perform their duties peacefully and without any threat from any side for which they should be provided security as is being provided to MLCs or MLAs and to other designatiories in the state.
