Jammu, July 19: Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation observed today 43rd anniversary of Bank Nationalization day. In this connection Federation organized a large meeting of Bank Employees belonging various nationalized banks of Jammu.
While addressing the meeting Com. Arun Kumar Gupta, General Secretary of the Federation traced the history of bank nationalization in India, high lightening the untiring role AIBEA played in forcing the then government of Indira Gandhi to nationalize 14 major banks of the country. Arun Kumar Gupta underlined the phenomenal all-round growth the Banks have undergone since then. From mere 8268 Branches in 1969 today Public Sector banks have 77000 branches of which 36000 thousands work in rural areas. This phenomenal growth of Banking sector was only possible because of banks Nationalization.
Com. Arun Kumar Gupta further underlined the pit falls and dangers that are lurking for the entire Banking Sector because of the economic reforms govt. has undertaken. Those present in the meeting were appraised of the Govt. intentions to dilute the nationalistic structure of public sector banks by tampering with Banking Laws, Labor Laws, Foisting outmoded concepts of certain committees like khandelwal Committee recommendations.
All these attempts on the part of the govt. were laid bare in the meeting. On 18th July 2012 a conciliation meeting was held at Delhi. Consequently, IBA came forward to hold bipartite discussions with UFBU within a week on the issues and demands raised by UFBU. In view of this development, UFBU decided and agreed to temporarily postpone/ defer the tow day strike action on 25/26 July 2012.
It has also been decided in the UFBU meeting that if IBA is not seriously coming forward to resolve the issues during the forthcoming discussions, the UFBU would revive the agitation and also give a call for Strike on 22nd and 23rd Aug, 2012.
