Over 50,000 pilgrims from J&K to perform Buda Amarnath yatra this year: BD | Yatra to start today under tight security arrangements | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 19: Over 50,000 pilgrims are likely to pay the obeisance in Buda Amarnath during the annual yatra this year which will start from tomorrow and culminate on Raksha Bandan coinciding with Sawan purnima. The Bajrang Dal and Vishawa Hindu Parishad (VHP) which is running the annual yatra of Buda Amarnath in Mandi tehsil of Poonch district since 2005 has finalized all arrangements for the pilgrims and the formal inauguration of the Yatra was made here this evening by Raj Mata Chanderkanta of Vijay Nagar in presence of Rajesh Pandey all India vice president BD, Health Minister of Punjab Laxmi Kant Chawla, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and other dignitaries. Mrs. Chawla will also accompany first batch of pilgrims to Buda Amarnath and pay her obeisance to Lord Shiva there. The first batch will leave early tomorrow morning from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas under tight security arrangements. The elaborate arrangements have been made by the district administration Poonch for the yatris this year from Poonch to Mandi. The DC Poonch has urged the authorities of PHE, PDD and BSNL to ensure proper water supply, electricity and mobile facilities. The authorities have also made complete lodging and boarding besides security arrangements for yatris. It may be recalled that after the spurt of militancy in 1989-90 the Buda Amarnath yatra was stopped as no pilgrim could leave for holy shrine due to militant's threat up to 2005. The militants had given open threat to yatra and warned against taking up of pilgrimage. Taking it a challenge the BD resumed this yatra in 2005 with active support of state administration and hundreds of its volunteers all over country visiting the holy shrine that year despite the militants threat. Since then the yatra continued and thousands of Bajrangis and devotees from different parts of country visited the holy shrine every year. The yatra has now become more popular all over India and the Bajrang Dal plans to run it for entire Sawan month said Nand Kishore convener of the organization. He said this time the Dal has decided to mobilize the yatris from J&K and about 50,000 pilgrims from different parts of the state is expected to perform the darshan of Lord Shiva this year. He said the Dal is organizing yatra from Udhampur, Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, Kathua, Samba, Rajouri and Jammu districts this year to make the yatra more popular in the state. Besides hundreds of yatris will also visit the shrine from different parts of the country this year, he added. He termed the successful running of the yatra by BD since 2005 a great success and challenge to militants who tried to stop the yatra on the behest of their mentors across the border. But taking it as a challenge the Dal frustrated their designs, he added.
