7/20/2012 11:20:47 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 20 : Harsh Dev Singh NPP MLA and Former Education Minister has lambasted the state govt. for yet another doze of discrimination doled out to Jammu region in the matter of allocation of funds sanctioned by the GOI for strengthening of infrastructure in High Schools under RMSA. He pointed out that the state govt. received funds during 2009-10 for 'Infrastructure strengthening' of 40 High Schools in the state @ Rs. 31.31 lacs per school which amount was to be further released in favour of deserving schools on a rational basis.
He regretted that when it came to identification of schools for the purpose, the state govt. opted for 36 schools of Kashmir region and only 4 schools of Jammu region. He said that for the 36 schools of Kashmir region identified for the purpose; the state govt. has approved Rs. 1127 lacs as against Rs. 134 lacs for schools of Jammu region.
Likewise, for 2010-11, the state govt. has again received funds for infrastructure strengthing of 20 High Schools @ Rs. 36.86 lacs per school. He lamented that the state govt. continuing with its policy of regional bias, has again identified 18 schools of Kashmir region and only two schools of Jammu region for the said purpose which is highly objectionable and reprehensible.
In the same way, GOI approved 19 Model Schools for the State @ Rs. 3.02 crore per school but the state govt. again played foul by identifying 14 model schools in Kashmir and only 5 in Jammu region, alleged Singh.
Flaying the continued neglect and deprivation of Jammu region schools under Education plans for the last couple of years, Harsh Dev Singh deplored the highly unfair and prejudiced treatment to Jammu region schools even under State Sector funds.
He said that during the last three years more than 85% of state sector funds have been allotted for Kashmir region schools. Likewise 90% of the schools upgraded to Higher Secondary level during the last three years fall in Kashmir region.
Seeking a fair deal for Jammu region schools, Harsh Dev Singh called upon the Chief Minister who holds the Education portfolio to refrain from such unjust and whimsical moves and to further undo the wrongs done to Jammu region schools in the matter of provision of funds.
He warned of serious ramifications in the form of public unrest and protests if immediate action was not taken to rectify the highly anomalous and discriminatory acts against Jammu region.
