Holy Mace of Lord Shiva taken to Sharika-Bhawani, pujan offered

SRINAGAR, July 20 : 'Chhari Mubarak', the holy mace of Lord Shiva was today taken to ancient 'Sharika Bhawani' temple in the Shehar-e-Khas (SeK), where pujan was held on the occasion of 'Shravan Shukla Paksha Pradipada', as per age-old traditions.
Goddess Sharika-Bhawani, popularly known as 'Tripursundari', among the mystics is believed to be 'Isht Devi' (presiding deity) is located on the Kohi-e-Maraan, where the shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Makhdooom Sahib and Gurdwara Chhatipadshahi are located. The holy mace was taken to Shankaracharya temple yesterday, where pujan was held on the occasion of ' Shravan-Amasvasya (Haryali-Amavasya). Joined by sadhus and other devotees, Mahant Deependra Giri, custodian of the holy mace, took the Chhari Mubarak from its Abode Dashnami Akhara Akhara building near here this morning, amid chanting of 'Vedic hymns and Bum Bum Bolay'. The holy mace was taken under security cover to the Sharika Bhawani temple to pay obeisance to the Goddess who manifested herself in a figure of 'Shila' (Holy Rock).
Sadhus, who participated in the pujan, prayed for everlasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Traditional 'Chhari-Pujan' shall be performed on the occasion of 'Nag-Panchami' which falls on July 23 at Shri Amareshwar Temple, Akhara Building, Budshah Chowk here. Centuries-old traditional rituals associated with annual pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine had commenced with 'Bhoomi-Pujan' on the auspicious occasion of ' Vyas-Purnima (Guru-Purnima) at Pahalgam on July 3.
