Chaman Lal Gupta concerned over drug abuse | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 20: Welcoming the announcement of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that J&K would be made a Tobacco free zone, the former union minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has expressed his surprise over the silence about the growing menace of other narcotics especially the mounting use of capsules and galloping consumption of liquor. Prof. Gupta said that no doubt the use of tobacco especially that of cigarettes is a health hazard and the people should be made aware of its bad effects. But the growing use of capsules is more dangerous for health than even tobacco and its products. The capsules and other such drugs are being smuggled and sold at sensitive places including places near the educational institutions. But little effective steps are being taken to check the abuse of such drugs. Prof. Gupta also voiced his concern over the galloping use of various kinds of liquor in Jammu areas but no awareness campaign is being planned against the adverse effects on the human lives by the use of different kinds of liquor. This, he said speaks a lot that instead of creating any awareness in this regard, the Government has issued large number liquor licences to even the fair sex as also a number of politicians. Thus, the sale and consumption of liquor is increasing and hitting at the vitals of the society and the Government leaders though claim to be the followers of the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, but their entire approach and actions do not match with basic principles which have been enshrined even in the Constitution. |
