BOSE- earns bad name, few families rule the roost
7/21/2012 12:19:18 AM
ET Report
Srinagar, July 20: Though politics in Kashmir is synonymous with dynastic rule rather family fiefdom, jobs in Government controlled institutions like the one State Board of School Education in the past, have been restricted to few families and the phenomenon of getting relatives appointed by senior Board officials has adversely affected the functioning of this prestigious institution with indiscipline ruling the roost.
To know about who belongs to whom, all you need to do is to file an application under Right to Information Act 2009, you will be astonished to know that majority of employees- irrespective of the nature of employment -belong to few families and are related to each other very closely. In some cases it is brother and sister, in others it is brother and brother and even in some cases it is father, daughter and son. If sources within BOSE are to be believed the families having significant number of job holders in BOSEhave been sabotaging transparent recruitment in the institution only to ensure backdoor entry of their nears and dears as they have managed in the past.
It was reliably learnt that about 50 junior assistants selected last year in transparent manner find it difficult to work as the family fiefdom was ruling the roost in BOSE. Sources said that senior officials working in BOSE are now eyeing on posts advertised last month , however, the incumbent chairman has decided to conduct the written test through an impartial agency to ensure the only meritorious candidates are selected in a transparent manner.
There are about 42 to 45 officials who have managed the appointments of at least 3 to 4 family members each in BOSE which means that 150 to 200 employees are related to each other and when such a large number of employees come from a few families, the whole process of selection comes under public scanner.
