To hide failure, Rajouri police claims that murder accused surrendered at Domana PS due to their "pressure" | | | Bharat Bhushan Jammu, July 20: In a sheer display of unprofessionalism, Rajouri police have tried to take credit for what they have not done. In a letter dashed to IGP (Jammu) Dilbagh Singh, a senior Rajouri police officer has staked the claim to having worked out a murder case, which actually they handled in a most unprofessional manner and miserably failed to solve. On May 21 last, Mohammad Younas Khan of Mendhar, Poonch, walked to Domana police station and allegedly confessed to having murdered his divorced wife Zeenat's second husband Ghulam Rasool of Rehan in Koteranka, Rajouri. Rasool was done to death by him at Kot, about 10 km from here on upper Akhnoor road in September 2011. Following a complaint by his family, Younas and Zeenat were picked up as suspects by Kandi police of Rajouri on March 3. DySP (Ops), Rajouri, was entrusted with the investigation. Though he put the duo to sustained questioning, he could not extract any information from them. The duo were then let off on March 17 as nothing was proved against them. The woman, however, did not know anything about the murder, police sources said. She stayed with Younas at Kot even after their divorce. As there was no clue to the whereabouts of Rasool, Zeenat became suspicious and repeatedly asked Younas about him. On May 21, almost a month and a half after their release by Kandi police without the registration of any FIR against them, Zeenat, in an attempt to build psychological pressure on Younas, locked herself in a room along with their son and a daughter and threatened to set herself and the children ablaze if he did not tell her about Rasool. The pressure tactics worked and Younas divulged the "truth". She then asked him to make confessional statement before police, the sources added. Though Younas made the statement before Domana police, the matter was later transferred to Gharota police station as Kot fell under its jurisdiction. After allegedly killing Rasool, Younas had buried the body near his rented house at Kot. It was later dug out by police. Over a month after the case was worked out, Rajouri police hit upon a plan to take credit. In his letter to IGP, the officer said the accused had surrendered before Jammu police because of the pressure built upon him by DySP (Ops). The fact, however, remains that the DySP had failed to work out the case and let off the accused from the custody of Kandi police station. |
