KATHUA, July 20: Kathua police has booked the owner of a factory under the Child Labour Act following complaints of engaging some underage boys at his industrial unit under the name and style of HH Industries in Kathua.
According to sources, slackness of Kathua administration towards child labour once again has come to fore when more than 15 children all falling in the age group of below 14 years were employed in a cable manufacturing factory known by the name of H.H Industries.
Following some complaints, ABVP activists led by State general secretary Rahul Dev alongwith media persons reached the spot and took serious notice of the children put on the job at an industrial unit. Meanwhile, police too has swung into action and has taken cognizance in this regard, local reports added.
Rahul Dev, general secretary ABVP while talking to media persons, underlined that it is gross violation of fundamental rights which includes Right to Education under Article 21A as well as Article 23 which bars trafficking and employment of children in hazardous occupations.
"The blatant violation of Child Labour Act by the industrialist in Kathua is virtually a slap on the faces of Industry Minister, Labour Commissioner, the entire Government and administration who claim themselves to be the protectors of child rights and defenders of Constitution, he said further adding that the children do not have their families here and have been brought from West Bengal.
Meanwhile, when contacted Sr Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Atul Goel, confirmed the incident and said that a police team from Kathua police station, after having information, reached on the spot and took the cognizance in the matter.
SSP Kathua further added that a case in this connection has been registered against the industry owners for engaging child labour. He also said that an investigation is in progress in this regard.
