Against 2537 road accidents, Transport Department takes measures | | | SUMIT SHARMA Jammu, July 21: Now JKSRTC has its own driving institute and to execute the proposed plan, infrastructure and a fleet of vehicles are being procured besides identification of 100 kanal of land is on. The proposal serves dual as it is expected to rejuvenate the already dead wood declared JKSRTC, sources said. In addition, government has also taken various measures, authoritative sources said. Meanwhile sources said that transport department has issued various circulars in one go, in a bid to bridle the uprising road accidents. As per circulars issued by transport commissioner vide order no 47 TC of 2012 "Before renewal of license to drive passenger service vehicle which is mandatory after every three years, the license holder shall be subject to fresh trial before trial committee headed by RTOs of Kashmir, Jammu, Kathua and in other districts by concerned ARTOs.The drivers and conductors of commercial passenger vehicles should display the photocopy of driving license on wind screen of the vehicle. Further, JKSRTC may kindly develop the Driving Training Institute on latest professional lines so that it becomes model institute for training. However, sources termed measures as old wine in new bottle claiming that such measures were proposed by IGP Jammu Dilbagh Singh in a press conference held in PCR about 8 months ago, Pertinently, The Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation woke up after losing the lives of around 500 people in 2537 road accidents that took place up to May this year As per official record as many as 414 people were killed and 715 injured in 2,537 accidents in Jammu and Kashmir up to May this year. "414 people were killed and 3,715 persons were injured in 2,537 accidents in Jammu and Kashmir till last month this year", a senior police officer said.Compared to it, 1,120 people were killed and 10,108 others injured in 6,644 accidents in 2011 year, he said. In 2010, he said, 1,042 people were killed and 8,709 injured in 6,136 mishaps. |
