Jammu traders observe shutdown against power cuts | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 21 : The traders of famous Raghunath market today observed complete shutdown against erratic power supply in this winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Amid slogans against Power Development Department, the traders under the banner of Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI) carrying black flags and wearing black badges took out a protest rally. The famous Raghunath market -- a hub of readymade garments and electronic gadgets -- remained closed for about one hour despite huge rush of tourists in protest against the hours-long power cuts. President, CCI, Jammu, Y V Sharma-- who led the protest rally, while talking to reporters, criticised the State government for not taking the issue of power cuts seriously as it has affected the trader community. "The small scale industry is facing difficulties due to non-availability of continuous electricity supply," Sharma said and also appealed the civil society to cooperate in saving the electricity. He, however, threatened that in case the government fails to provide uninterrupted power supply, the traders would intensify protests and observe indefinite shut down. |
