Coalition Coordination Committee meeting soon to discuss PSC nominations | | | Bashir Assad
Srinagar, July 21: The Coordination Committee of ruling National Conference and Congress is likely to meet soon here to discuss the nominations for filling up the vacancies in the state Public Service Commission. Sources told Early Times that CCC under the chairmanship of Prof Saifuddin Soz will meet soon in Srinagar to discuss the number of issues including filling up of vacancies in State Public Service Commission. "The meeting would primarily discuss the issues related to functioning of the coalition government in the state particularly in the aftermath of open war of words between chief spokesperson of National Conference Dr. Mustafa Kamaal and senior Congress leader and Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Taj Mohiuddin. It was reliably learnt that Coordination Committee of the NC-Congress coalition Government will also finalize the list of nominees for Public Service Commission and the same will be forwarded to the cabinet headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for concurrence. Though a section of society is challenging the constitutionality and veracity of the CCC, however, it is considered as being the apex decision making body. Sources said that the members of the CCC which include Professor Saifuddin Soz, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Finance Minister Ab. Rahim Rather, Rural Development Minister Ali Muhammad Sager, senior Congress leader Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma and senior NC leader Choudery Muhmmad Ramzan have almost finalized the list of probable. "There are four vacancies in the PSC," sources said, adding that PSC as per the rules has strength of eight members, besides a chairman. At presently S L Bhat is the chairman of PSC, while Javaid Makhdoomi, KM Wani, MH Samoon and KB Jandial are the members. If sources are to be believed cc members have decided to recommend Director General Accounts and Treasuries Wali Muhammad Bhat (retiring in September), Inspector General Police (Railway) Abdul Qayum Manhas (retiring on 31st August), Retired Director General Fisheries T Angchuk and Chairman SSRB Buvaditta Bhagat. Though name of B L Dogra Chief Engineer PHE Jammu was doing rounds earlier, however, CC members have decided in favour of Buvaditta Bhagat. According to the sources, CC will also deliberate on elections to the Block Development Councils in the state. Election Department had earlier finalized the tentative schedule for holding the elections to Block Development Councils, across the state but recent threat to the elected panches and sarpanches and the subsequent resignation of more than three hundred punches due to the threat from the militants, the state government put the issue on back burner. Sources further said Saifuddin Soz being a strong advocate of Panchayat Raj System in the state is likely to build pressure on the coalition government to hold elections to the Block Development Councils and will also ask for adopting 72nd 73rd amendments to the Indian constitution in the state legislature. Sources also disclosed that filling up of the vacancies in Commissions dealing with the backward groups and several Corporations would also be on the agenda of the meet. |
