1679 pilgrims leave for Amarnath, Buddha Amarnath shrines from Jammu

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, July 23 : A total of 1679 pilgrims today left for the holy cave shrines of Shri Amarnath and Buddha Amarnath situated in South Kashmir of Himalayas and in Poonch district of Jammu region under tight security arrangements, meanwhile more than 4300 pilgrims today left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas despite cloudy weather and intermittent rains. The pilgrims for Amarnath cave shrine left from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatrai Niwas base camp here.
"A batch of 1033 pilgrims comprising 684 men, 170 women 28 children and 151 sadhus left at around 0515 hrs for the Amarnath in a convoy of 40 vehicles including 31 SRTC buses and nine private Vehicles," an official spokesman here said.
Meanwhile, 646 pilgrims also left for Buddha Amarnath shrine in a convoy of 16 vehicles amid tight security arrangement.
More than 4300 pilgrims today left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas despite cloudy weather and intermittent rains. About 5.80 lakh pilgrims had darshan of the self-made ice- Shivalingam since the commencement of the pilgrimage on June 25.
A Met department spokesman said here today that the sky will remain cloudy on both Baltal and Pahalgam tracks and there could be rain or thundershowers during the next 24 hours.They yatra official said about 2464 pilgrims, including women, children and sadhus left Baltal for holy cave since 0500 hrs this morning.
He said 1845 yatris, including women, children and sadhus, left Nunwan Pahalgam for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional route.
He said those yatris who had night halt at different halting stations enroute also started their onward journey this morning while those who had darshan also started their return journey.
Majority of those who had darshan of the self made Ice-Shivalingam have returned to their homes.
