People rue erratic water supply, block National Highway

Kishtwar July 23: People of Zelna, Kuleed and Wasser area of Kishtwar District held a strong protest against water shortage in their respective areas and block two main National Highways viz Kishtwar-Padder- Himachal Pradesh and Kishtwar-Sinthan-Srinagar Highways for more than 3 hours resulted into heavy traffic jams. The agitating people raised slogans against PHE officials and demanded removal of Junior Engineer posted in the area.
They blame the inefficiency of JE as a main cause of water crises in these areas having population of more than 5000 inhabitants. They agitating people alleged that the concerned JE misbehaved with village Lumbardar and demanded unconditional apology from JE to Lambardar.
They also leveled serious allegations of corruption against the said JE and demand a vigilance probe against him.
After seeing the situation getting out of control, ACR Kishtwar Rajesh Kumar Shavan, Dy. SP HQ Kishtwar along with AEE PHE Sub Division Kishtwar rush to the spot to pacify the agitating people. ACR Kishtwar on behalf of the District Administration Kishtwar assured action against erring JE and urged the people to lift the blockade. ACR Kishtwar also directed AEE PHE to prepare plan for separate gravity line so that the local inhabitants get proper water supply.
He also issued directions for removing all illegal connections from gravity line which was allegedly given by the PHE officials to some influential persons. In response to the allegation of corruption against the JE, ACR Kishtwar urged the people to lodge a formal complaint in this regard before the competent authority so that the allegations could be probed.
ACR Kishtwar directed the police to check sale of water through PHE tankers to private parties for construction purpose.
ACR Kishtwar informed the people that water tanker service is only meant for the poor populace and said that sale of water for construction purpose is illegal and
urged the people to bring the matter into the notice of District Administration or police so that the necessary action could be initiated against the culprits. After assurance given by ACR Kishtwar and Dy. SP HQ Kishtwar, the agitating people lift the road blockade.
