Diluting special status of JK | Can Sher-e-Kashmir be exonerated? | | Early Times Report srinagar, July 23: Responding to BJP leader, Arun Jaitley's statement on Article 370, the National Conference spokesman Tanvir Sadiq said Article 370 was important and safeguards peoples' identity and interests. Usually National Conference activists accuse Bakshi and the Congress of diluting the special status of the State. However, some Central laws were extended by Sher-e-Kashmir as well and his son, Dr Farooq Abdullah broke all records. Neither Sher-e-Kashmir nor Dr Farooq Abdullah ever protested abrogation of Article 238 of the Indian Constitution. This particular Article deals with Centre-State relations and was considered soul of Article 370. Silence of leaders particularly Sher-e-Kashmir's cannot be condoned by any means. Can Tanvir Sadiq exonerate Sher-e-Kashmir for diluting the special status? The spokesman's other part of the statement merits special consideration. Why accuse BJP of dividing people for political interests. What has NC been doing from the very beginning? It was NC led by Sher-e-Kashmir that caused the Sher-Bakra divide. The divide claimed hundreds of lives. Hundreds of homes broke, women were divorced, houses were set ablaze and property was looted. While Dr Farooq showed some maturity and put an end to this legacy, Sher-e-Kashmir always encouraged the divide for his petty political interests. |
