One NC Minister tries to 'influence' me, says Murtaza
Samba land acquisition matter: NC on weak wicket…? 'I too have option of moving privilege motion'

Early Times Report
Jammu, July 23: A day after National Conference came out with a statement condemning PDP legislator Murtaza Khan and threatening to move privilege motion against him, the latter responded in the same tenor today saying he too has similar option open and is considering to bring privilege motion against one of the senior NC Ministers who he alleged tried to influence him and settle the matter of Samba land acquisition 'amicably' with other members of the ruling parties in the Committee set up by the Legislative Council during Budget session.
In what could be seen as opening up of Pandora's box over the issue which in all likelihood would 'expose' behind the scene developments and intentions of the Government in general and ruling National Conference in particular in pushing through the matter hurriedly and its apparent state of urgency, the PDP MLC today countered with a 'shocker' disclosing that while arguments were on between the members of the Committee ahead of the formal meeting on July 18, a Minister of National Conference called him up only to cajole and convince that instead of posing 'hurdles' he should 'amicably' settle the matter with other members so that Government ( Revenue Department) is able to go ahead with the land acquisition deal.
"I have never received any phone call from any NC Minister nor do I encourage such calls….I was surprised to hear what they (Party) wanted to convey to me through the Minister…it was apparently a call to influence me into settling the matter without raising the questions on which I have sought answers in all the meetings in the backdrop of gross irregularities in land acquisition process besides the issue of divesting of land of some locals and the serious matter of conversion of agricultural land for non agricultural purpose…", Khan said while speaking to ET. Substantiating his point, the PDP legislator said some NC leaders were hell bent upon to make an issue out of what happened on July 18. " I did not budge from my stand ….they failed to convince me the way they wanted things to happen…."Khan said .
It is ironical the party came out with a statement after four days over the issue ….one wonders what prompted and who provoked Bakaya after four days to say that he would move privilege motion against me…..the fact remains everything went smoothly in the formal meeting with officers of various departments and the members dispersed on a cordial note on July 18. It was in fact a request from the ruling party members that the word about heated arguments over the matter should not go out as it would give a bad message, to which all agreed unanimously, he said. " Were they (NC) planning for all these days to come with a condemning statement and did it take them so long to think that privilege motion should move against me…."? The PDP legislator questioned.
In what could now drag the matter on political lines, senior leader of PDP said if they are ready with privilege motion, he too has the option open of toeing same line of NC (Minister) having tried to influence him and trying to hush up the queries raised by him in pushing ahead the issue their way. It is pertinent to mention here that Murtaza Khan had pointed out the document attached with the information circulated to members over the matter in which NC MLC Vijay Bakaya had referred to one order issued by him few years back in capacity of Commissioner Industries.
"My contention was that he could not continue to be the member of the Committee as he was at some point of time associated with the issue of land acquisition ……in that sense he was a party and now after becoming MLC is discussing the matter in general interest where the House wants us to come out with conclusion in an unbiased manner. My point was that he cannot conduct the proceedings in the meetings in an impartial manner whereas the House he expects the members to take cognizance of all aspects in an impartial manner. Propriety demanded that should disassociate himself from the panel and resign, Murtaza Khan maintained.
