Early Times Report
Jammu, July 24 : Assailing the authorities for frequent prolonged power cuts in Jammu, reeling under extreme hot and sultry weather, with monsoon having failed, the Kranti Dal has attributed the same to the insensitiveness of the government towards the problems facing Jammu. General Secy Kranti Dal Pritam Sharma, lambasted the chief minister Omar Abdullah in particular, who is also holding the charge of power ministry, for not taking any steps to mitigate the sufferings of Jammu people on this count, even after many opposition MLAs raised this issue in the Jammu district development board meeting held on Sunday. Pritam Sharma has said that while the enforcement wing of the PDD appointed recently to check pilferage and theft of electricity, has taken some cosmetic measures by raiding some business establishments in Jammu and imposing fines on the defaulters, the major leakages and theft of electric power by over 50% of the consumers, has been untouched. Referring to the chief ministers disclosure that government is incurring loss of Rs 2500 per year on power front, the Kranti Dal has rued that while the PDP department is presently concentrating all their resources and energy on installation of new electronic power tariff meters for the power connections where already electronic power tariff meters stand installed, in the last 3 to 4 years.Further the stress has been only on earning more revenue from the consumers who are already paying heavy tariff on electric power, where electronic meters already stand installed. Instead the work of installation of electronic meters for power connections where these are not already installed and where the consumers are paying flat meager rates, causing heavy loss to the govt. on electric power, be expedited. Similarly during the period Secretariat and move offices are in Jammu, most of the move employees also use electric heaters for cooking and consume power without paying any thing. Further heavy amount of arrears on electric charges is outstanding against some high government officers, politicians and VIPs. These arrears should be recovered at the earliest and the money spent on improving the power supply to the honest consumers.
