Bhaderwah- Chotta Kashmir awaits improvement in tourist infrastructure | | | Early Times Report BHADERWAH, July 24: The tourism season picks up, and with it, the hopes of a stable economy of Bhaderwah have rekindled since the picturesque tourist spot has gone through torrid times in the last two decades due to militancy. The financial system of the region is in shambles. It is reliance on the grants from New Delhi have only deepened.2011 being an unexpectedly good tourist season has generated a hope among masses that Bhaderwah can create avenues, which will make it self-reliant and bring jobs and prosperity to thousands of households that are directly and indirectly related to the tourism trade. As the influx of the tourists grew, the difficulties and lack of infrastructure to deal with the numbers is visible on streets, outside hotels and in the queues that tourists make everyday at the ticket counters of various gardens. The lack of space for the tourists in different hotels shows government's lack of planning in creation of better infrastructure. Hundreds of applications for building guesthouses, hotels and resorts from unemployed businessmen are pending with various state agencies for clearance. The red-tapism and the procedures put in place by government will keep these files gathering dust. The nepotism and corruption is another factor these unemployed youth will remain away from jobs and better future. New businessmen who want to be a part of the growing tourism market often complaint government is deliberately keeping them away from the trade as they want to favour influential and bigger business houses. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has repeatedly said that entrepreneurship is the only way forward to tackle the unemployment crisis in the state. But when young minds try to create businesses ventures their ideas are thwarted at every step. The hurdles created by government agencies disappoint young people with the system, which is trying to create credibility for itself in a political atmosphere where loyalties shift quickly.Government has to be open and create a single window system for giving license and clearance for new business ventures. Certain norms have to be relaxed for new business ventures and more creativity is to be set in place in government offices which will create flexibility for new business ideas. The tourists are accommodated in relatives of those who run travel agencies and there are no hotels available. It is not a good sign for tourism and brand Bhaderwah. Government has to be proactive and visionary while creating the avenues of employment and the infrastructure for tourism in Bhaderwah town. |
