| 1,611 pilgrims leave for Amarnath, Buddha Amarnath shrines from Jammu | | More than 2850 Yatris leave for holy cave, 5.86 lakh have darshan | | Early Times Report
JAMMU/ SRINAGAR, July 24 : A total of 1,611 pilgrims today left for the holy cave shrines of Shri Amarnath and Buddha Amarnath situated in South Kashmir Himalayas and in Poonch district of Jammu region under tight security arrangements, meanwhile lowest number of 2,868 pilgrims today left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.
The pilgrims left for Amarnath cave shrine from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatrai Niwas base camp here.
"A batch of 888 pilgrims comprising 545 males, 178 females, 16 children and 149 sadhus left for the Amarnath Shrine in a convoy of 33 vehicles including 27 State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses, two private and four light motor vehicles," an official spokesman said.
As many as 733 pilgrims, including 486 males, 231 female and 16 children also left for Buddha Amarnath shrine in a convoy of 17 vehicles amid tight security arrangements.
About 5.86 lakh pilgrims had already had darshan of the self-made ice- Shivlingam since the commencement of the pilgrimage on June 25.
A yatra official said 1219 pilgrims, including women, children and sadhus left, Baltal for the holy cave at 0500 hrs.
He said 1649 yatris, including women, children and sadhus, left Nunwan Pahalgam for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional route.
This was lowest number of pilgrims leaving base camp for the holy Cave shrine since the commencement of the annual pilgrimage on June 25. The number was more than 10,000 daily in the past.
He said those yatris who had night halt at different halting stations en route also started their onward journey this morning while those who had had darshan also started their return journey.
Majority of those who had had darshan of the shrine.Have returned to their homes. |
