Develop Katra on modern lines: DyCM

JAMMU, July 24 : Laying stress on developing Katra on most modern lines, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said government is committed for all round development of the town and Adjoining areas, so as to ensure holistic development of the area. He said Katra Development authority (KDA) is working for creating better facilities in the town both for visiting pilgrims and for residents of the town.
He was addressing a meeting called to review development projects under taken by KDA , besides other important issues pertaining to Katra town, here today.
MLA, Reasi Baldev Raj, District Development Commissioner, Reasi Mrs. Nirmal Sharma, CEO, Katra Development Authority, Executive Officer and other officers attended the meeting. Directing for maintaining proper cleanliness, the Deputy Chief Minister called upon the concerned to ensure that hygiene and sanitation in the holy town is maintained round the clock and special squads of municipality are formulated to keep a check on adulteration.
"Katra being base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi ji yatra caters to pilgrims from all across the country and globe and it is duty of the concerned departments to make sure that yatra facilities offered are one of the best," he added. Responding to demand put forth by the MLA for wage and pony rate revision, Tara Chand said that the issue requires immediate attention and directed the Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter, adding that realistic and genuine rates should be fixed for the benefit of visiting yatris as well as those involved in the profession. He also issued directions for early tendering of carriage contract, so that realistic revenue is generated and the same is utilized for creating infrastructure and to create better facilities in the town.
The meeting was informed that revised Master Plan for the town is under final stages of preparation and the job has been outsourced to an Ahmadabad based firm.
Later, Baldev Raj presented a charter of demands of the people of Reasi town.
The charter enlisted various demands pertaining to planned development and creation of better sanitation facilities in the town.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities to look into the demands and ensure that all genuine demands are addressed in a time bound manner.
