In an era of non-performance, Taj compiles book on his achievements | Begani Shadi Mein Abdullah Diwana | | Bashir Assad srinagar, July 24: Notwithstanding widespread perception about "non performance" of Omar Abdullah led coalition Government, Minister for PHE and Irrigation is compiling a book on achievements of his Ministry during last three years or so. The voluminous book, "yes, we can" presently under compilation deals with the whole range of subjects rather achievements- the Ministry claims to have listed on ground and the book also deals with contentious issues like Indus-Water Treaty, dispute with Punjab over Ravi Basin, Wullar Barrage and off-late the most controversial and contentious issues dealing with the status of Hydroelectric Power Projects being run by NHPC in the State. Taj has listed the Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources (Regulation and Management) Act 2010 as a historic piece of legislation that has empowered the State with unbridled powers over its waters and by virtue of which Taj has so far realized about Rs 1200 crores as water usage charges from NHPC. It sounds like Urdu proverbial, "Begani Shaadi Mein Abdullah Diwana" or "Jungle Mein nachay more", at a time when there is wide perception among public circles that young Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's delivery is not up to the mark and that the corruption in the State has been virtually institutionalised, Taj is beating the bush. There is no denial that the Minister has provided dynamic leadership to the department and that he has really taken some bold and historic initiatives such as construction of Wullar barrage despite objections by Pakistan, construction of Tawi Barrage, restoration and modernisation of Ravi Canal and last but not least nearing the settlement of dispute over Ranjit Sagar Dam with Punjab but when overall performance of this coalition Government is subjected to objective analysis it really goes proverbial "Begaani Shaadi Mein Abdullah Diwana". Of course Taj has invited severe criticism from friends and foes alike over certain issues which he described as revolutionary measures taken by his Ministry but "Jungle Mein Naache More Kis Ne Dekha". However, the book which is presently under compilation will certainly invite the attention of many once it hits the stalls because it is for the first time that a Minister writes a book pertaining to the achievements of his Ministry during his tenure. |
