| POWRGRID Sports: ER-I, NR-I share Carom, Bridge titles | | | early times report
Jammu, July 25 : Eastern Region (ER)-I and Northern Region (NR)-I bagged Carom and Bridge team championships respectively in the POWERGRID Inter Regional Tournament that concluded at Panchkula in Chandigarh today. In individual event, Kumar Adarsh bagged singles title in Carom while the doubles trophy went to the pair of G Narsingh Roa and Dayanand of Southern Region (SR-I). Earlier, in the Carom team championship, ER-I defeated Western Region (WR)-I by two games tone in a keenly contested final. Levelled at 1-1 after two singles, the game was decided in doubles match that decided the tie in favour of ER-I. Earlier ER-I and WR-I had reached finals by defeating SR-I and POSOCO respectively in the semi finals.
The singles open event saw complete domination by Kumar Adarsh of ER-I. Throughout the tournament, he remained unbeaten and carried the same form and luck into the finals. In the finals, he defeated Rajat Nag (NER). Earlier he had also defeated G.Narsingh Roa(SR-I) in the semifinals while Rajat Nag trounced DMVhatkar (WR-I) to make it to the title clash. Similarly, in men's double event, G Narsing Roa and Dayanand (SR-I) got better off Kumar Adarsh and Soumitra Roy (ER-I) 19-15,12-25,15-13. Meanwhile, Bridge events, NR-I emerged as the top ranked team with a cumulative score of 55. ER-I and ER-II achieved second and third rankings with 52 and 37 points in their respective accounts. POSOCO ranked fourth with a score of 36.
In the valedictory function Executive Director NRTS-II, S C Singh was chief guest. He distributed the prizes among the winners. In his remarks Singh congratulated the winners and encouraged other players to perform better in future. He highlighted the importance of sports in our daily lives.
He also complimented the organizers for organizing the tournament effectively and successfully. K.R Suri GM (O&M), Pramod Kumar, DGM(F), S S Pall, Chief Manager (Chandigarh) were among those prominent persons graced the function. Vote of thanks was presented by Chief Manager (HR), Stanley Mathews
