Ladakh team bags 5th Himalayan Traditional Archery trophy | | | early times report LEH, July 25: Ladakh team clinched the overall championship trophy in the 5th Himalayan Traditional Archery Tournament, organized by Himalayan Archery Society of Himachal Pradesh in collaboration with Government of Himachal Pradesh at Spiti Archery field Kelong in Spiti. Ladakh team secured highest 79 points out of the 15 rounds of competition in team championship. The winning team included Rinchen beshu, Lobzang Thogthok, Tundup Changthang and Rigzin Kurja. Since Ladakh fielded two teams, the `B' team remained third. In this team Rinchen Sabi, Wangail Thiksay and Tashi Skara were the members. In all, 12 traditional archery teams across the Himalayan region took part in this four-day event. Meanwhile, in individual event, the first three positions were bagged by archers from Ladakh. Lobzang Thokthok got first place while Wangail Thiksay and Tundup Changthang secured second and third position respectively. The Deputy Commissioner of Kelong was chief guest in the valedictory function while SSP of Kelong was guest of honour. In his address, Deputy Commissioner congratulated all the participating teams and extended his best wishes in carrying forward the tradition of archery in the Himalayan region. He was highly impressed by the performance of Ladakh teams and assured that the tournament will be organized in more professional manner in the years to come. Back home the victorious traditional archery team of Leh given a rousing reception by the district administration. The team was received by all other members of the Traditional Archery Society of Ladakh at Upshi and offered Khataks to all the participants for winning the team as well as the individual titles. Latter a grand reception dinner party in honour of the victorious team was organized at hotel Indus, Shey. Speaking on the occasion, president, Ladakh Traditional Archery Society of Ladakh, Rinchen Beshu expressed his happiness over the keen interest shown by all the members of the Society. He was very hopeful of getting full support from LAHDC, Leh in future to preserve and promote the tradition of Archery in Ladakh. |
