Bedi Commission gets 5th extension | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has given another two month extension to Commission of Inquiry (COI) to complete the probe into mysterious death of National Conference worker Syed Muhammad Yousuf. The term of the on man Bedi Commission probing death of National Conference worker, Syed Yousuf Shah, was today extended for the fifth time. The state government had appointed the retired Supreme Court judge as the head of a one-man Commission to probe the death of 61-year-old Haji Yousuf in custody. The state's Law Department has issued an order regarding the extension of time period to the COI headed by Justice H S Bedi, a retired judge of Supreme Court. The term of COI was set to expire on July 28. Commissioner Secretary Law G A Tantray told KNS that an SRO in this regard was issued for granting another extension to the Commission of Inquiry. Minister for Law and Parliamentary affairs Ali Mohammad Sagar Confirmed the extension. "Yes, the term of the commission has been extended by two months", Sagar told KNS over phone.This is fifth extension of COI, which was initially asked to finish its job within six weeks. The Commission was appointed by the State Government on November 18 to inquire into the mysterious death of Yousuf, who died on September 30 after being handed over to Crime Branch by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at his residence. |
