| State Govt unconcerned towards farmers' woes: BJP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 25: The farmers of Jammu province are once again subjected to gross discrimination and total neglect by the state government. On one hand there are no rains and on the other non availability and supply of electricity is badly hitting the crops this season. This was alleged by BJP MLA from Marh Assembly constituency Sukhnandan Kumar while listening to the grievances of the people, mostly from rural areas, who called him during his public darbar at party headquarters on Wednesday. Kumar said that the farmers in every part of Jammu are facing acute shortage of water for irrigation as the monsoons till now has not been to the required level. The water in canals too is not meeting the needs for irrigation. Due to long power cuts the farmers are not in a position to even run their water pumping machines. A farmer is totally dependent on his seasonal crop and to get good crop, there is need of seeds, fertilizers, adequate water for irrigation. The farmers are finding it difficult to sow crop in absence of fertilizers, rains and adequate water in canals for irrigation. BJP leader said that the state's coalition government has no concern for the farmers and the same is clear from the fact that despite repeated representations and even direct talks with the Chief Minister, Agriculture Minister and senior most officials of the Agriculture department, no effective steps has been ever taken to resolve the problems of the farmers. MLA said that the last three years witnessed massive protests, road blockades, dharnas by the farmers in large numbers in different parts of Jammu province and every time only hollow promises were made to pacify the agitating farmers. |
