| MIER celebrates annual day | | | Jammu | Feb 4 Model Institute of Education and Research organised annual day celebrations, here today. Education minister, Mangat Ram Sharma was the chief guest and witnessed the colourful cultural programme presented by the school children. The function started with lighting of tradition lamp and paying homage by Mr. Sharma to the founders of MIER late Prof. H. L. Gupta and Prof. Shanti Gupta by laying floral wreaths at their portraits. Lauding the role of MIER in spreading quality education and for producing enlightened citizens equipped with necessary skills to assume the leadership role in all walks of life, Mr. Sharma said that among the list of alumni included two chiefs of the armed forces, chairman of human rights commission and ex-Chief Justice of Supreme Court among many celebrated luminaries bears ample testimony to this fact. He further described the yeoman service rendered by MIER to the society and state as exemplary and observed that institution has matured to function as a centre of higher learning. He also lauded the performance of the students and teachers in organizing cultural programme and winning prizes in several curricular and extra-curricular activities wishing all the best for its future endeavour. The highlights of the colourful cultural programme included aerobics, dandia, kud dance, Punjabi folk dance, Kashmiri rauf, modern dance and English and Hindi plays that enthralled the audience. Among prominent persons who attended the function were former V.C. Prof. Y. R Malhotra, Prof. J. R. Rathore, teachers, students and parents. Director MIER Mr. Arun K. Gupta read out performance report of the institution and welcome address while Principal Mr. Adit Gupta presented vote of thanks.
