| Landlord locks school to force authorities to accept demand | | | early times report
Jammu, July 25: Over 60 students have been put to great trouble with the locking of Government Middle School Dadan in Ukhral zone of Banihal tehsil of Ramban district for the last two days. The school has been locked by landlord who has donated the land for it demanding appointment of his kin as a cook for Mid day meal. The school has to employ one person as a cook for preparing Mid day meal for the students. Though the landlord had requested the education authorities for the same but due to their failure in accepting his request the landlord resorted to agitational tactics and locked the school from outside to force the education authorities to accept his decision. The arbitrary action on the part of landlord has led to the problems of the students who have lost two precious days of their studies. The failure of education authorities to act in time has also generated a lot of resentment among the parents of the students and some student organizations. The parents of students and leaders of Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad while terming situation grave, accused the education authorities of being a mute spectator to issue. Their failure to intervene and get the school opened shows the callousness of authorities, said ABVP leader Shamsher Singh. He said the education authorities including CEO Ramban sand ZEO Ukhral are fully aware of the matter but they have failed to act. The students are unable to attend the school for last two days but there is no one to look into the problem. He said the school was locked at such a time when students were preparing for half yearly examination and if the stalemate over the issue continued the school can remain locked for days together, he added. "We are living in a far flung area and mobile towers also don't function here so it is difficult to approach the authorities to apprise them of our problem" said Gopi Chand Aryan whose two children are studying in the school. He said the parents approached headmaster as well as ZEO Ukhral but they showed their inability to act. It is not known whom to approach as no one from the authorities side takes pains to settle the issue. The arbitrary action of landlord has put the career of 60 students at stake, he added.
