Omar succumbs to paltry crowd
7/26/2012 12:43:15 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 25: On Tuesday, a paltry crowd hold protest against the power cuts in Srinagar. For some time, traffic was blocked and some female protestors were chased away by people. The effect was not only visible but shockingly fast.
With in 24 hrs, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announces additional Rs 200 crores for purchase of electricity. He makes it a point that there is strict adherence to scheduled.
On the same day, protests were held across the Jammu city. It was continuation of protests going for since the start of the summer but the administration was just silent.
It's fact that people should be provided relief during Holy month. This fact can neither by argued nor discounted .
However, the fact also remains that life had come to halt in Jammu for the last one month. Sweltering heat, no rains and power supply just for couple of hours.
It's human suffering of highest order. It's not that Government was not aware of this fact but it deliberately chose to ignore as suffering hears doesn't fit in the scheme of administration headed by Omar Abdullah who views Kashmir as his sole constituency and Jammu just an appendix-an unwanted organ.
Just a few day back, the same CM who had chaired a meeting of Jammu District Board, had said "his Government had supplied more power to Jammu this summer than last year but it doesn't meet the aspirations of the people."
If the CM who relies on logic in making statement here, had used the same in Srinagar. He had figures and facts. Could have countered the protests with the same argument which he used here.
But he chose not to do so. Protests in Kashmir has political ramification and could and have potential to trigger protests. Knowing this factfully, he went extra mile to appease protestors in Kashmir.
The CM must keep in mind that protests in Jammu may not have political ramifications but does hold the potential of even division of State: Crica 2008.
