Vijaypur observes complete shut down against power failure, water crisis
Cong leader Manjeet Singh goes all guns blazing, threatens agitation

VIJAYPUR, July 26: Irked by the failure of Power Development Department (PDD) to provide adequate electricity to Vijaypur and its adjoining areas, a complete Bandh was observed in Vijaypur town with people taking to streets and holding noisy protests.
Protestors were led by ex-Minister and Congress leader Manjeet Singh. Shopkeepers downed their shutters while farmers left their routine of going to fields to protest against PDD's inefficiency in providing adequate power to Vijaypur town. Significant was Congress leader Manjeet Singh, who has remained a Minister during PDP-Congress regime, training guns against his own government.
He left no stone unturned in criticizing NC-led coalition government for its 'inefficiency and corruption'. Manjit Singh was highly critical of NC-led government for being unable to provide adequate electricity to residents of Vijaypur and its adjoining areas. Call for Bandh was given by Beopar Mandal-Vijaypur and Kissan Union.
Thousands of people from Vijaypur and its adjoining areas led by Manjeet Singh staged noisy protest demonstration against PDD and district administration and especially against the local MLA for failing to provide electricity and drinking water supply.
The protestors marched from Canal road to BDO ground where Manjeet Singh handed over the memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner Bikram Singh Jamwal for being presented to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for the fulfillment of their demands. Protesters shouted slogans against local MLA and administration, demanding that government should take immediate steps in restoring power supply and drinking water.
Shopkeepers, inhabitants and farmers of Vijaypur and its adjoining areas have threatened to launch wide spread agitation against the district administration, Power Development Department (PDD) for its failure to provide adequate electricity due to which businessmen and farmers have been facing tough situation in the area.
He said that they will launch wide spread agitation with the protest demonstration at DC office in case their demands are not met. He demanded the power which is being purchased for Rs. 200 Crore to meet crisis situation, Jammu should be given proper share. "Government should accept demands of Shopkeepers and farmers. They are dependent and they should be helped to cultivate their fields," he suggested.
Meanwhile, Senior Congress Leader Dr. Satpaul, block president Amar Nath Bhatti, Distt. Vice President Babbal Gupta, Ex. MC President Nikki Mahajan, Beopaar Mandal President Bharat Bhushan, Ex. President Satish Chander, Ex. Director Makhan Lal Gupta, Sarpanch-Vijaypur Sham Lal, Sarpanch-Dhamore Sukhjinder Soingh, Sarpanch-Bagoona Brijpal Singh, Sarpanch-Rangoor Natha Ram, Saindass Bhagat, Ashok Verma, Youth Congress Leader Rajan Sharma, Dr. pankaj Mohan, Paramjit Singh Pamma, TIrath Bhagat, Manjeet Billa also adressed the protestors.
