2 Amarnath pilgrims die, toll rises to 114 | | | early times report Srinagar, July 26 : Two pilgrims have died on way to the 3,880 metre high holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas, taking the death toll in the ongoing yatra to 114. A total of 112 yatris lost their lives due to medical reasons and accidents till July 23, yatra official today said. On the basis of statistics being maintained by the Shrine Board, till July 23 evening, 84 pilgrims had lost their lives due to medical reasons and 6 on account of accidents within the Yatra area. Eighty-year-old saint Ram Singh, resident of Madhya Pradesh, died at Pisso top on traditional Pahalgam- cave route due to cardiac arrest. Another yatri, 45-year-old Shriniwas, resident of Andhra Pradesh, died at Ganesh top due to cardiac arrest, he said. A total of 114 yatris have lost their lives due to health reasons and accidents since the commencement of the annual pilgrimage from June 25 against a total of 120 deaths reported during entire yatra period last year. Besides, 22 pilgrims had lost their lives outside the Yatra area, of whom 18 were killed in serious accidents.
