early times report
Jammu, July 26: Hundreds of Kashmiri Pandits including men and women staged a massive demonstration outside Relief Organization in protest against bungling in allotment of quarters.
The protestors from early in the morning assembled in front of Relief Commissioner's office raising slogans against unfair means adopted in allotment of quarters by the authorities and depriving the genuine and deserving migrants in the list.
The protestors who also gheraoed the relief organization, tried to make forcible entry in relief commissioner's office but timely intervention of the police saved the situation from taking an ugly turn.
Sensing the trouble after ganging the mood of protestors, Relief Commisioner R.K Pandita called the police to control the mob. However the protestors did not budge and continued sloganeering for the whole day.
The protestors alleged that genuine migrants dependent on cash relief were dropped in the allotment list while some blue eyed boys having proximity to some NC leaders were allotted quarters. They alleged the genuine people were made to suffer.
Demanding that list be immediately quashed the protestors also turned the attention of chief minister towards the issue.
They said the callousness on the part of authorities in Relief Organization had led to their problems.
The protestors while expressing their grave concern on the manner in which the list was issued by the authorities, said the authorities have given three days time in furnishing objections while one day has already passed and it was not possible for them to file objections in two days. They demanded that atleast one week's time should have been given for this purpose. It is not possible to file objections within two days. Moreover the maximum allotments have been made to those who have their own houses while genuine and deserving have been ignored.
The protestors warned to intensify agitation and occupy quarters by force. Hundreds of agitating people later left towards Jagti to forcibly occupy the quarters there.
Meanwhile Non Camp Migrant union has strongly criticized the Relief Organization for dropping the genuine and deserving people in the allotment list. In a statement issued here today chairman of the organization D.N.Kissu said despite promises made by authorities to accommodate the genuine people from non camp the authorities have betrayed them. Kissu warned that non camp migrants will launch a decisive agitation to demand allotment of quarters to genuine migrants putting up in rented accommodations.
