Non-delegates make it to PCC, factionalism go downhill in Kashmir Congress | | | Bashir Assad srinagar, July 26: Notwithstanding the directions of the Congress high command to bring a truce among the warring factions of the State unit of the party, Soz faction has reportedly done a mischief while nominating members for Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) as a significant number of non-delegates have made it to the apex body in the State. Moreover, members hailing actually from one block have been nominated from a different block that has sparked fresh hullabaloo between the two warring factions. The approved list of the members of PCC from Kashmir region available with the Early Times speaks volumes about how one particular faction has managed the nomination of its loyalists throwing party constitution into winds. For instance one Jasbeer Kour actually a voter from Baramulla town has been nominated to PCC from Uri Block while as the Sayed Najib Naqvi hailing from Uri who was recommended by the concerned MLA has been dropped. Similarly, Aftab Ahmad Beigh actually hailing from Tangmarg Block has been nominated from Sheeri Block in Baramulla district while as Shameema Sopori actual resident of Sopore has been nominated from Tangmerg. Moreover, Peer Ghulamuddin a voter of Zainageer block has been nominated from Kunzar block. In the same way, Hilal Ahmad Shah of Anantnag block has been nominated from Devsar block. The above nominations cannot be delegates from the block they have been nominated from as they have done membership from their own blocks. It is also alleged that even non-delegates have been nominated to the apex body of PCC. The move has angered the Congress leaders owing allegiance to Ghulam Nabi Azad as this unconstitutional exercise by the Soz loyalists is aimed at showing exit to Azad loyalists. It merits a mention here that at the Srinagar conclave on May 19, Congress leaders, irrespective of their affiliation to different factions, had publicly announced that they would work as a unit to make the party play a bigger role in the State after the next Assembly elections. The unity efforts have received a severe blow by this alleged discrimination and if the mood of the Azad loyalists is any indication, the PCC list will be challenged at the highest level and some leaders have already made their mind to agitate before the party high command soon over the issue. Azad faction is blaming Soz loyalists for infighting to weeken the party in the State for their vested interests. The Congress in the State is divided between two factions - one headed by Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Saifuddin Soz and another by those who owe their loyalty to Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Some leaders accuse Mohan Prakash, member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and incharge Jammu and Kashmir for being partisan. They allege that Mohan Prakash has never taken them into confidence in organizational matters. |
