| Bakaya moves breach of privilege motion against PDP MLC | | ‘Have got an opening....will expose every truth of the matter’ | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 26: Translating what the party leadership ‘desired’ him to follow into action, National Conference MLC Vijay Bakaya today finally moved the privilege motion against PDP MLC Murtaza Khan urging the Secretary of the Legislative Council to take due notice of the matter followed by appropriate action against the latter , contending his privilege as MLC had been breached by the unparliamentary conduct of Khan during the arguments over Samba land acquisition issue. Reacting to this Khan said he only anticipated this ‘move’ from the NC which he too would counter it and expose the party ‘intentions’ and motive behind it.
In the privilege motion the NC legislator while giving reference of the meeting of the House Committee on July 18 to look into land acquisition of 796 kanals of land at Samba, has contended that ahead of the formal meeting with the concerned officers, Murtaza Ahmad Khan raised the matter regarding copies of the letter of 1995 issued by him as Industries and Commerce Commissioner addressed to the Deputy Commissioner Jammu to acquire 6700 kanals of land for Industrial Estate at Samba and on that basis advised him (Bakaya) to withdraw from the Committee .” Khan made this point and argued this letter showed I had interest in the case”, Bakaya mentioned in the breach of privilege motion while giving background of the whole issue. Khan , in the informal meeting, it may be mentioned had vehemently opposed to Bakaya’s continuance as Member of House Committee on the contention that propriety demanded him to resign on account of his association with the matter much earlier before the Committee was set up.
However, the ground on which Bakaya has sought action against the PDP MLC is that latter during the course of heated arguments after he resisted the objections , allegedly hurled accusations, used objectionable language and even assaulted him physically.
Sticking to his stand of having rightfully resisted to Bakaya’s presence in the Committee as member, Murtaza Khan said the way NC leadership is following this only goes on to show their approach and mindset that they are not ready nor willing to leave any political space for any party, leave alone the rivals on any issue. “ It is widely known fact about NC right from the level of Block officers that they have developed a kind of hegemony and monopoly on all matters….they lack tolerance and patience to the points raised by other parties….” Khan said asserting in the same breath , “ I am against this mindset……. the dominating and hegemonic attitude of the leadership can be gauged from the fact that Bakaya had himself got convinced with my arguments and agreed to withdraw from the panel…..this was reflected when he said he is under pressure from the party to move the privilege motion.”, PDP MLC said adding that the purpose and motive of NC is something else.” They want to settle the matters in their own way and it is purely under frustration they are bent upon bullying and harassing others”, he added. Khan asserted he too would follow the same course and ‘expose’ the intents of NC behind this move and his efforts would be to bring all truth on the fore. |
