| Bhalla for speedy completion of Gangyal nallah works | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 27 : Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla has asked the R&B engineers to immediately start the construction work on both sides of Gangyal nallah embankments to prevent soil erosion which has become a big threat to the public assets including OHT being constructed along the nallah during monsoon. The instructions were issued by the Minister during inspection of breach portion of both sides nallah embankments caused during recent flash floods, here today. Minister was accompanied by District Development Commissioner Sanjeev Verma alongwith other officers of UEED, Town Drainage, Revenue and R&B departments. Bhalla informed that Government has earmarked Rs. 2 crore under State plan for construction of box type culvert and protection walls of the Gangyal nallah. The Minister asked the executing agency to immediately clear the garbage from the choked nallah to avoid inconvenience like faced by the inhabitants during the previous year’s monsoon, when the flash floods made its way into their houses causing heavy loss of public and private properties. Bhalla sought cooperation of the locals for early completion of the project. He said there is no constraint of funds in providing relief from flash floods during rainy season. To beautify the alongside half kilometer open space available along the canal, the Minister said Government has spent Rs. 1.6 crore for development of recreational park in providing illumination, walkway, drinking water, water storage reservoir besides landscaping facilities to the people of the Gangyal. He said most of the works of the project have been completed, rest would be completed within one month. |
