Early Times Report
Jammu, July 27 : Omar Abdullah government in Jammu and Kashmir is insensitive towards problems of the farmers and is doing nothing to promote the agriculture sector. This was alleged by Bihar BJP Kissan Morcha State President Dhirendra Singh, who was in Jammu on Friday alongwith Morcha Treasurer Amit Kumar and BJP Bihar Media Seh-Prabhari Raju Ranjan.
Dhirendra Singh, who held a meeting at party headquarters with National Executive Member and State Chief Spokesperson Dr. Jitendra Singh, Kissan Morcha State President Karan Singh, Press Secretary Balbir Ram and Hosptiality and Protocol State Convenor Sanjay Khanna, said that he was highly disappointed to see the plight of the farmers in the peripheral areas visited by him. He said that a state like J&K which has the potential of good agriculture, has been neglected by the state government as a result of which a poor farmer is at the verge of starvation. He said that weak monsoon and inadequate supply of water for irrigation through canals in Jammu is going to affect the crops of farmers this season also. The similar situation has led to suicides by farmer in other state. Referring to the pro-farmer approach of the BJP-JD (U) coalition in Bihar, Dhirendra Singh said that our government has set up “Krishi Cabinet” with 17 departments working in coordination to ensure that the farmers are not made to suffer on any account.
He said that under “Rainbow Revolution” in Bihar, not only agriculture but sericulture, cattle raring, fishery etc. have been paid due attention so that these agriculture related sectors too flourish and the farmer is benefitted. He said that the Bihar government has a provision of giving rupees 3000 per acre direct to farmer for paddy crop besides providing free organic manure.
In addition, the Bihar government also provides 70-80% subsidy on purchase of agriculture equipments and 50% subsidy on setting dairy project. On fishery project, 90% subsidy is granted to farmer. Not only this, the government donates 50% for the insurance of cattle. He said that the J&K government should adopt the pro-kissan policies on the pattern of Bihar so that the farmers are not made to suffer any more. BJP Kissan Morcha State president Karan Singh said that there is every possibility of drought and the farmers getting their crops damaged. The government should immediately conduct survey and pay adequate compensation to the farmers.
