EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 27: Crime Branch, Jammu has produced challan against a retired Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) for tampering with his Date of Birth (DoB) certificate at the time of his appointment in Police Department in 1980.
According to sources, the Crime Branch, Jammu received a letter from Commandant IR 13th Bn. Jammu mentioning therein that one Ashok Kumar of Vijay Nagar, Talab Tillo, Jammu had lodged a written complaint against ASI Makhan Lal son of Sarwanand, Gole Gujral Camp Road, Trilokpur near Airtel Tower, Jammu alleging therein that the said ASI had produced a fake 'Date of Birth Certificate' at the time of his appointment in Police Department.
During preliminary enquiry initiated under the orders of Armed Police Headquarters, J&K, a Photostat copy of the School Leaving Certificate and first page of character roll of the official were obtained wherein his date of birth was reflected as 30.03.1954, but after verification from the concerned Government Higher Secondary School, Dangiwacha Rafiabad, Baramulla, it came to fore that the actual date of birth of ASI Makhan Lal was 30.03.1951 as per the school records and that the official had tampered/changed his date of birth from 30.03.1951 to 30.03.1954 at the time of his recruitment as Constable in the Police Department.
On the basis of this letter, a formal case against FIR No.16/2010 under sections 420, 465, 466, 468, 471 RPC at P/S Crime Branch, Jammu and investigation started.
During the course of investigation, the relevant records were obtained from quarters concerned and it was established that the accused had dishonestly tampered with his date of birth in order to make himself eligible for getting a job in the Police Department and had intentionally cheated the Department by using the forged date of birth as original at the time of his recruitment as well as during the entire period of his service and has also caused wrongful loss to the state exchequer by withdrawing an excess amount of Rs.2,35,746 on account of excess pay drawn, therefore offences under relevant sections were fully established against the accused.
On completion of investigation, the challan has been produced before the Municipal Mobile Judicial Magistrate, Jammu and next date of hearing has been fixed on August 7, 2012.
