| 13th Kargil Vijay Divas celebrated at Drass | | | Early Times Report
Kargil, July 27: To commemorate the victory of the Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan in Kargil War and pay homage to those who laid down their lives, the Thirteenth Anniversary celebrations of 'Operation Vijay Diwas' commenced on 25 July at Drass under aegis of 'Forever in Operations' Division. The ceremonies were conducted to express the Nation's gratitude to the martyrs and to honour the family members of those who suffered irreparable loss while serving the Nation. Kargil conflict was a poignant but decisive part of India's victory which highlighted the courage, conviction and commitment of Indian Army in safeguarding the motherland from any external aggression. A special flag hoisting of a 40' x 27' Tricolour atop a 101ft mast erected by the National Flag Foundation was carried out at the Op Vijay War Memorial as the inaugural event. The flag hoisting was done jointly by Lt Gen KT Parnaik, PVSM, UYSM,YSM, ADC, GOC-in-C, Northern Commend and Naveen Jindal, MP and Chairperson ,National Flag Foundation of India. The National Flag flutters majestically in the backdrop of Tololing and Tiger Hill.
The venue thereafter shifted to Vishwanathan Stadium where a Motor Cycle display was conducted by the'TORNADOES'. They enthralled the audience with some breathtaking and death defying motorcycle stunts. This was followed by a friendly Polo Match, played between Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre Team and the Dras Polo Club. The match was keenly contested by both teams with a fair share of excitement. The event was witnessed by a very large local population, all players were complimented for their skills and sportsmen spirit. The Polo match was followed by cultural program where the local artists enthralled the audience. |
