| Omar calls Sangma a Poor Loser | | | Salil Raina POONCH, July 27: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah's comments on Sangma have won him severe criticism. Political circles have termed it unfortunate. Omar had said, "Sangma couldn't have chosen to win but he could have chosen to lose with grace and dignity. Shame he had to be such a poor loser," Sangma has been elected to Lok Sabha eight times. He also remained Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1996-98. He was contesting Presidential elections against UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee. Registering his protest, a local activist said: "Omar also was a poor loser in 2002 when a lesser known person, Qazi Afzal defeated him. NC which had won 40 seats from Valley in 1996 election, managed to get only 18 seats in 2002. It was NC's dismal show ever when they were reduced to 28 seats in 2002 from 57 seats in 1996." He added: "Infact PDP, under Mufti's dynamic leadership completely clean bowled Omar's NC, but nobody went off the track and used such a harsh statement against Omar's NC then." Others accused Omar of poor governance. An angry student went to the extent of accusing him of nurturing double standards. "Even a common man knows that, he failed to set the governance in order that can bring justice to people, instead he is indulging in rhetoric's only to please New Delhi to get funds and when in absence of funds, he never misses an opportunity to express that New Delhi is giving step motherly treatment to JK. So, its double standard all the way as history tells us that self benefit is the only mantra for NC as it was a part of both NDA and now UPA. NC has failed completely on developmental front and such immature statements day in and out completely shows Omar's frustration and nothing else." |
