3 Cong Ministers on frequent Delhi visits to 'grab' vital portfolio | 'Mission R&B Ministry'….? | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 27: At least three senior Ministers belonging to Congress party have been visiting New Delhi and camping there , lobbying with power corridors for a common mission. It is no ordinary mission nor related with any organizational activity albeit one in which they have purely personal interests. It is the 'Mission R&B Ministry', the murmurs of which has lately sent them into a flurry of activity- all to manage some 'push' to get this vital Ministry. Sources said that three senior Ministers went to Delhi during the past over week, almost one after the other, one of them even visited twice only to manage a 'jack' in the concerned quarters to get this portfolio which is at present lying with National Conference. Sources said though there is some talk about 'retrieval' of both R&B as well as Education portfolios from the ruling NC, but the Congress Ministers, who are already holding one or the other significant portfolios are in race of 'capturing' only R&B Ministry for apparent reasons. Whether this mission will fructify anytime soon but their individual efforts are continuing, sources said. Even as pretexts for deferring expansion and reshuffle of the Cabinet Ministers in the State are almost over, this much delayed exercise looks unlikely as of now there is no murmur from the quarters that matter within both NC as well as National Conference. But the 'convincing ' and apparently meaningful assurance to Congress this time by none other than the Union Minister Kapil Sibal during his visit to Srinagar few days back has stirred some waves of hope among the party 'aspirants' that they would get back two important portfolios of R&B department and Education any time soon. Sources said during the interaction with the party functionaries and workers when the latter raised the issue of the two portfolios which are in Congress' share still retained by National Conference , thereby depriving the party of its rightful due, Kapil Sibal sensing the deep anger within the party assured that he would take it up with right quarters in New Delhi and ensure that the party gets its due share without any 'hurdles'. Sources said while visiting dignitaries from the party have for quite a long time been making such assurances but this time Sibal's assurance sounded meaningful which not only sent a wave of optimism not only among the party workers across the State but also turned some sitting Cabinet Ministers 'active' albeit with some uneasiness. Pertinently, amid a flurry of political activities in the summer capital of J&K increased with the visit of a spree of Union Ministers for the last over two weeks, the coalition Government has remained quite busy, particularly the Congress ally leadership which took some time out of the busy schedule of visiting dignitaries to arrange interaction with middle rung cadres and workers from various parts of Kashmir. It is during the course of these informal meetings they have once again managed to act as pressure groups in trying to convince them that NC has been taking them for ride on matters which are otherwise their rightful due. |
